“I mean in a way Obama is standing above the country, above—-above the world, he’s sort of God” (Evan Thomas, Newsweek)
When the Intrade betting line was 83-17 in favor of Scott Brown, (at 3 pm Tuesday), I was still suspicious. Democrats outnumber Republicans 3-1 in Massachusetts. But the simple message of Scott Brown did prevail. One can legitimately call his win “historic.” It felt like a mini-presidential race. Brown was in the right place at the right time with the right message.
So much of life is unpredictable. In the grand scheme of things, we control very little of our circumstances. Sometimes the best one can do is respond when given the opportunity. We can each imagine our favorite sport’s analogy, so apt for this election. The conditions under which Brown was running, however, was ripe with opportunity and he responded.
Ted Kennedy and JFK held that Senate seat since 1952. It became vacant due to Ted’s death in August. Anyone running for the Kennedy seat, renamed the People’s seat by Brown, was going to get noticed. Also, the United States Senate’s current filibuster proof split of 60 Democrats and 40 Republicans made this election a true referendum on the current policies of Reid, Pelosi and Obama. How likely is that? Massachusetts’ voters, therefore, knew their vote had national implications, causing turnout to be substantial for a so-called “special election”. It was this opportunity to repudiate the Administration’s core policies that Scott Brown seized. He did so with a message remarkable in its simplicity, particularly when compared to the hallucinatory visions we have been forced to witness.
For the past two years we have watched a media invent one hyperbole after another when discussing our president. Up is down and left is right. When the president gave his grandiose, highly stylized, historically inaccurate,” “apologize for America” speech in Cairo, Egypt last June, Newsweek’s most senior writer and reporter, Evan Thomas, said in response; “I mean in a way Obama is standing above the country, above—-above the world, he’s sort of God”. It is immaterial what Thomas might have “really” meant by that statement. It was representative of the complete haze we have been living under. Since the start of the presidential campaign, one could almost believe that, we the people, would believe any garbage thrown our way. But as the first Republican president, Abraham Lincoln, said,
“you can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.”

Our emperor has no clothes. President Barack Obama brags about being the one who will finally accomplish what “every president since Teddy Roosevelt” has tried to accomplish—pass “health care reform”. This is an historical non sequitur. He proclaims that taxpayers can “insure” 30 million more people, achieve “budget neutrality”, lower the cost of health care, and do this without rationing. This too is absurdly and obviously not true, yet we are supposed to acquiesce because “something must be done”. We watched unemployment rise from 6% to 10%, after the Obama administration passed its $800 billion “stimulus” bill, as the president invented an insane immeasurable metric called “jobs created or saved”. His Attorney General, Eric Holder, takes Khalid Mohammad out of military custody to put on trial in New York City, to show we “are better than our enemies”. He then simultaneously guarantees Mohammad will never be permitted to go free. After a major scandal places further doubts on an already speculative and suspect “global warming” theory, the Obama EPA declares CO2 a pollutant. As projected deficits increase due in large part to his policies, he gives speeches on fiscal responsibility.
These are mind numbing actions and concepts that are chaotic at their core. What struck me by contrast was the simplicity of Scott Brown’s campaign stump speech. Evan Thomas will not confuse him with God. As Brown liked to say “My name is Scott Brown. I am from Wrentham. I drive a truck”. He came out directly against the government take over of health care, in favor of across the board tax cuts for individuals and businesses, against civilian trials for enemy combatants, and “no more hiding costs, concealing taxes, collaborating with special interests, and leaving more trillions in debt for our children to pay”. Who would have thought such an obvious message could seem so profound?
This was just one election, but it definitely reflects the nations’ mood. It also will not cause the trinity of Obama, Pelosi, and Reid to change their tune. Of this we can almost be certain. As one pundit said, they will simply double down.
So we should keep in mind that this is just the beginning. But it is the beginning of the end for the Age of Obama.
